Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. At the age five she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she attended The Dragon School. Emma was aspired to be a professional actress since she was six. She studied at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting school with part-time courses. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been picked for these characters. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first film on the screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. This film was 2001's highest production, and it broke records on opening day and first weekend. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film, as well as the performance by three young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her exceptional performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in an Film.
